It's really hard to do a truly entertaining random animation. You have some interesting ideas and a few chuckles, but something more is needed to put it over the top.

Pretty Amusing...

But uh, one thing.. In your credits, you say "You Spin Me Round" was done by New Order. It wasn't. It was done by Dead Or Alive.

Congratulations on this achievement!

I really don't like movies that have an enitre song as part of the sound file pumping up a poorly animated file to the multi-meg category. I also don't care for the small files that are basically a few pictures set to a small annoying loop.

Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for showing this community how to make a great Flash movie that fully optimized and has a low file size.

I believe you've thrown down a gauntlet (whether you meant to or not) and I suspect there will be others that will soundly attempt to answer the challenge. I thank you for that, too.

Very well done, but...

Did you have to resort to the caricture of Xiao Xiao as the glasses-wearing bucktoothed stereotype of the Chinese that has existed for over 70 years? It's not even funny, it's just sad. And even if you don't have a high view of the Chinese in general, you might think that Xiao Xiao, who you must admit makes some kickass movies, deserves a little more respect than that.

Ben-Spurgin responds:

Hell no he doesn't!
If he had drawn real people instead of stick figures he'd get my respect. But he doesn't!

Very creative

It starts out very unassuming. I was even thrown off by the use of text for 'get back to work' and the obligatory bloodshed, but then it turns very fanciful. Nice fakeout.
I also liked the use of just black and white and simple shapes to construct your objects and people.
Congratulations on an enjoyable piece!

This deserves to be seen.

First of all, it'w reviewers like the last three that prove why there isn't more variety on the Portal. This is supposed to a forum where new visions can be shared and appreciated. But no, the moronic masses want to undress anime characters set to the latest Limp Dickshit track.
I applaud the use of Billie Holiday's music as the basis for this movie.
Second of all, for that guy that doesn't know what this is about: Read the lyric!! 'Southern trees' bearing 'bloody leaves'? It's about the lynching of black people in a time where racial hatred abounded in this country. This type of display of sensless violence is much more significant to me than some dinky little character getting its head shot off just because the Flasher can scribble a red paint tool over the screen.
There are more things in this world that are dreamt of in your imagination. Especially if you can't fathom deep enough to understand movies like this.

Was (Not Was)

The music has actually been animated to in the past before. The group that did it was called 'Was (Not Was)'. Weird name, weird song, weird animation. I saw another film with the same song at an old animation festival. They were equally weird. I guess the song inpsires it.

Hooray! Style exists on Newgrounds!

Very very very cool cartoon. I can identify with the guy totally. I've been trying to meet girls and respond to the ads I find, and they're all just auto-responses to lure guys into sites with membership fees.
I know that's a very glib and surface comparision but it works for me.
Hope to see more from you.

Very good Flash Video

There are some very good techniques you use here, like turning one object into another to change scenes. The use of color is very remeniscent of the "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds" part of the Beatles' "Yellow Submarine" movie.
However, the song loops over itself, creating too much of a cacaphony in one section. I really think you could have come up with some kind of an ending to break all the tension you set up with the relationship and images you set up. Give the viewer some semblance that it's over. You can always put a replay button at the end of it.
Other than that, very good work.

I am having many love for The $20,000 Zig!

A very, very good twist on the AYB phenomenon, as well as smurfs. The style of all the artwork and sound are excellent. Keep it up!
